1951 - In the Beginning
For the first 20 years, Northlake Engineering was known as Central Transformer Company and was located in Chicago. Morton R. Whitman and Lloyd Shore formed the company in 1951 to support the growing electronics industry with customized engineering design and manufacturing. From its earliest days, the company designed and supplied transformers to principal manufacturers of nuclear radiation and other electronic medical instruments. With the continued development of more sophisticated products in this field, electronic medical instruments have become a major area of expertise for the company.

1971 - Northlake Engineering Emerges
As the company’s reputation for outstanding quality and innovative manufacturing capabilities continued to grow, the company moved its operation to a larger facility in Antioch, Il and changed its name to Northlake Engineering.

1984 - A New Owner
As Whitman and Shore approached retirement age in 1984, they sold the company to William A. Hardt. A year later, Hardt expanded the Northlake facility and installed the company’s first computer system for manufacturing. “Just-in-Time” manufacturing was established and engineering operations were expanded.

1986-1991 - Acquisition, Expansion and a Move
to Bristol, WI

In late 1986, Northlake acquired Quality Transformer Company. Operations were consolidated and moved to Antioch. The next several years brought major improvements in operations and production including the establishment of a work cell environment. In 1991, Northlake purchased six acres of land in the Bristol, Wisconsin Industrial Park—a major route between Milwaukee and Chicago. A new 30,000-square-foot facility was constructed. Upgraded manufacturing and test equipment was installed.

1998 - ISO 9002 Certification
On April 10, 1998 Northlake obtained its ISO 9002 certification and converted to a new NT-based computer network. This, along with the addition of Internet and e-mail access, helped improve overall operation and enhanced customer service.

2003 - ISO 9001:2000 Certification
Northlake is committed to continuous improvement. On March 19, 2003, Northlake's ISO 9002 certification was revised and renewed to comply with the ISO 9001:2000 standards.

2005 - Meeting New Demands
With the demand for Power Distribution Units and Power Supplies in the high-tech marketplace, Northlake launched several time-critical programs. As always, Northlake
continues to develop and grow a wide range of value-added capabilities.
